“If you’re asking me to make a comment about this turnaround, it’s very difficult to go from a bowl game and just have seven days to prepare,” he said on a media teleconference Tuesday. “They’re coming from the West Coast, we’re coming from New Orleans and then we’ve got to be someplace else on Friday.

“I think that some kind of way somebody's got to think about the players a little bit when it comes to these games and not just what's convenient for the media or TV or whatever.”

Amazing. I guess its OK for the FCS teams, but not them

I think Kirby said something similar as well. Regardless both teams will be up for the game

Lol at any SEC team crying about travel when they play every game within 500 miles of Home. You would think they are traveling by covered wagon.

I would also bet you would have NFL coaches bitch as well if they had 6 days to prepare for the Superbowl.

he has a point but wont lead to anything. lot of travel for people for the players who wont make any money on the games but the media and schools make money hand over fist and they make the decisions. cant say he is wrong to say it, just unlikely to change anything

Here is Bama's rigorous travel from Tuscaloosa -

@ Georgia Dome Atl vs FSU - 202 miles
@ Vandy - 248 miles
@ Texas A&M - 632 miles
@ Miss St - 82 miles
@ Auburn - 160 miles
@ New Orleans vs Clemson 291 miles
@ Georgia Dome vs Georgia 202 miles

Bama is traveling roughly 1920 miles in six games. Meanwhile Georgia's trip to the Rose Bowl was 2240 miles.

So what exactly is Saban's complaint again?

he aint bitching he is right. last year there was a 9 day break because it was convenient for tv ratings. this year there is a 6 day break for the same reason. we all know it going in but the money drives this scheduling. the ncaa doesnt want to compete with the nfl for ratings so it has to be this monday because another week off isnt okay in their mind. ncaa has to own the new years eve/new years tv ratings and the monday after. since they only care about money its pretty clear he is calling them out on it. cant say he is bitching when he answered a questions regarding travel....stop hating...roll tide.

But he is bitching. He’s lucky he’s even in the playoff.

a) who gives a shit about 2nd-rate football that might draw 100k viewers and 25k fans in the stands?
b) FCS finalists will have played their semifinal game 20 and 21 days ago....since you do care
c) there's also a fan's perspective of trying to secure hotels, tix, etc in short order vs the 2 weeks you get at NFL level

other than that you're definitely onto something

The NCAA is all about money. Then again, so is Saban. Nothing wrong with that, but he’s a control freak and complains if every little thing isn’t in his favor.

you will have to explain the money play here?

you think game wouldn't draw viewers if it was on a Wed or Thu? huh?

i was at 2010 game which was held on a Thursday in Pasadena. It was the biggest TV show on ABC on a Thursday in 15 years and highest ratingt since the Tex/USC game in 2005 (which was also on a Thursday). Last year's game, played on a Monday, got far less ratings than either of those Thursday games

missing the money spot here...

Not necessarily this game in particular but the NCAA is more for money than the student athlete.
